Beach trip
10/01/07 – Wednesday
Sorted out the utilities for our new place today. They have a pretty good system here for people moving, where you can call just one number and they will sort it all out for you – phone, internet, gas, etc…I’m sure they have this back in the UK, but it has been really handy here.
Also opened a bank account! Yay, feel more like a local citizen. We have decided to bank with the Commonwealth. The banks here are a rip off though (well at least they seem to be more up front about it. All banks are evil, but at least they tell you that up front here!) You have to pay a monthly fee just to have your bank account and they charge you for all your withdrawls etc…Goddamn as if the tax taken wasn’t enough (somewhere in the region of 47%!!!)
Then decided to head across the water to a suburb known as Manly, which is mainly focussed around it’s beach. Boat trip over was lovely – good picture opportunities of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in one frame.
Manly seems nice, if a little tacky-seaside-resorty. It was heaving too as this is peak season and summer holidays and all that! We sat ourselves down for some lunch with a sea and beach view, and I had the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Amazing – Café Rouge if you are ever about.
Then headed to the beach – got to get tanning after. Beach was heaving and had to go along way along to get a decent space. There was lots of beach volley ball going on (which Zain seemed particulary interested in!!) and all sorts of surfing schools etc…They guy next to us even got up and got kitted up and went off for a kite-surf. Very cool.
Met up with some friends a bit later on for some beers and then headed off for some wood-fired pizza which was also amazing. So on the food front, thumbs up for Manly.
