Australia Day

26/01/07 – Friday – Australia Day!!!

Australia day. Mostly just lazed about today and hung out down at the Rocks/Circular Quay area where it supposedly ‘All Happened’. There were hundreds, if not thousands of people there waving their flags, wearing their Aussie bikinis and generally making sure everyone knew they were Australian. There were bands, street artists, food joints, merchandise joints selling everything you could ever need to prove your love of your homeland – Aussie t-shirts, hats, banners, flags, stickers and temporary tattoos – they really go for it here! It’s quite nice really the fact that they are all so happy to be Australian and come out to celebrate that. Where is our St. Andrews public holiday?

Watched some tennis on the steps of the Opera House and then headed home to watch more on TV and have some dinner. An interesting cultural day and our first real day of being tourists because we could just enjoy it for what it was and not be stressing about getting things sorted out.

Photo of me posing by the Harbour Bridge - trying to tame the hair!!

Oh yeah - there were lots of boats in races too!
